Braiding: Easy Styles for Everyone (Personal Care Collection)
Published in Paperback by Delmar Publishers (August, 2001)
Authors: Diane Carol Bailey and Jamie Rines Jones
Average review score:

This book is ok
This book is ok. It has pretty good diagrams. The downfall of this book is that the African American section is the last 20 pages of the book. I thought this book could have been 50/50.

CliffsNotes Managing Your Money
Published in Digital by Hungry Minds ()
Authors: Cliffs Notes and Mercedes Bailey
Average review score:

For the novice only
I obtained this book free as part of a tax software promotion, and it is certainly worth every penny I paid. Kidding aside, it would make a fine supplemental text for a high school economics class - the tone is light and conversational, the advice is sound (if elementary), and all essential ideas are clearly explained. However, adults with a real interest in their financial futures probably already know this stuff and would be better served by a more detailed book.

Families (Bailey, Debbie. Talk-About-Books.)
Published in Hardcover by Annick Pr (September, 1999)
Authors: Debbie Bailey, Susan Huszar, and Sue Huszar
Average review score:

Nice portraits of multicultural, multigenerational families
This volume is a compendium of six earlier works by Bailey and Huszar. The collection includes the books: My Mom, My Dad, Brothers, Sisters, Grandpa and Grandma.

The format pairs large photos of a variety of families from many cultures doing everyday things with simple descriptive sentences. The photos, taken by professional photographer Huszar, who specializes in children's portraiture, are colorful and well composed. Unfortunately, the editing and printing process did something funky to them, because they are slightly out of focus and grainy, and it doesn't appear that was intentional.

Still children will enjoy looking at these pictures of families doing fun things together and exploring the ideas that different family members play different roles.

Fashion & Merchandising Fads
Published in Hardcover by Haworth Press (October, 1994)
Authors: Frank W. Hoffman, William G. Bailey, and Frank W. Hoffmann
Average review score:

Concise descriptions of a variety of American fads
Hoffman and Bailey have compiled a couple hundred brief descriptions of fads from the United States. The focus is on fads from the last 50 years. There isn't any analysis of what fads really are, or what makes them happen, but it's interesting reading. It's enjoyable for anyone interested in fads, but I particularly recommend it for younger readers.

Grandmothers' Stories: Wise Woman Tales from Many Cultures
Published in Hardcover by Barefoot Books (September, 1999)
Authors: Burleigh Muten and Sian Bailey
Average review score:

Mediocre tales...
I love stories about wise old women--the kind who are brave and as clever as they are caring. I was hoping this would be a book full of stories of such women, but I was disappointed. Only half of the tales featured a wise old woman as a main character, and although they were well-told, none of the stories were very compelling. As a collection, this book seemed to lack focus due to poorly chosen tales.

However, one element in this book is outstanding. A mural-of-sorts runs along the bottom of each page--a different mural for each tale. These murals tell the tale in minature and are a joy to explore. I found myself skipping ahead just to see what each new mural would be. This unique feature makes this book worth a look.

Hangmen of England : a history of execution from Jack Ketch to Albert Pierrepoint
Published in Unknown Binding by W.H. Allen ()
Author: Brian J. Bailey
Average review score:

Very Interesting, But....
This is a must read for any and all interested in the men behind the executions; specifcally, in Albert Pierrepoint and England's other hangmen. There are problems, however. For example, Brian Bailey makes some egregious errors of fact, two of which are glaring: First, Herman Goering's corpse was not hanged. Second, Caryl Chessman died in San Quentin's gas chamber, not its (non-existent) electric chair. Mr. Bailey's worst offense, however, is his self-righteous and drumbeat condemnations of the death penalty, and his condescending and nasty attitude toward those ignorant and barbaric enough to be proponents of the death penalty (a group of which I'm proud to be a member). After all, Mr. Bailey's book is subtitled "The History of Execution from Jack Ketch to Albert Pierrepoint," not "The Death Penalty Has Been Repealed; How Smug I Am." With these provisos in mind, the book is worth looking for, finding, and reading.

Heart of the Golden Empire: An Illustrated History of Bakersfield
Published in Hardcover by Windsor Pubns (June, 1984)
Author: Richard C. Bailey
Average review score:

I found it insightful , yet lacking in the context.
As I said before, there is more to bakersfield than just pictures. Monsieur Bailey needs to open is optic lense to capture more of the reality within the daily lives of it's citizens. He is a well read person, but tends to dwell on the overall perspective of this wonderful city that many proudly call home.
